parrotsnake on a branch

Adrian Mander

My inspiration was a mermaid! The idea of two very different bodies, clashing but aesthetically pleasing. Mermaids would have little use for their arms, unless they were intelligent and tool crafters. Yet mermaids are beautiful creatures, and they would seem very odd without arms or hair, or facial features. The same applies to this parrot-snake hybrid. It doesn’t make sense evolutionarily, but the two forms match very well for the eye when put together. At first I included a human face in a watercolor pencil drawing. It was a little too jarring, and didn’t fit the real spirit of the prompt in my opinion. So I restarted and went simpler.
