Community Service Woodshop

What inspired you to create this work?
The Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce live edge conference table was a Community Service Project for the BARN woodshop. The 11’ long table was made of highly figured Big Leaf Western Maple from the island. Lumber milling was completed by David Kotz and the table was constructed by a team of woodworkers who volunteered their time as part of our Community Service program in the woodshop. The team consisted of Wayne Chang, Ian Forbes, Jodi Kelly, Jerry Small, Denise Pajak, Mike Rehder, Morgan Neff, Tom Leurquin, Kevin Schmidt, and Marianne Spur

Tell us about the creation process including any obstacles overcome or surprises.
We had various obstacles related to significant wood rot, cracks, and twisting of the wood slabs. The use of epoxy and various stabilization techniques were utilized making these imperfections structurally sound which emphasized the beauty of the slabs.
