I'm so excited to present the first edition of Context from the Writers Studio at the BARN.
Context is an online journal that not only showcases the work of BARN (Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network) members, but also reveals the story behind the story. What was the inspiration for the work? How did one work influence another? What obstacles were overcome in creating the work?
Our goal is to celebrate and inspire all of our maker journeys across all studios (Jewelry and fine metals, electronic and technical arts, glass arts, writers, woodworking & small boat building, print and book arts, fiber arts, kitchen arts, metal fabrication, media arts and Bainbridge Community Broadcasting). We particularly like to celebrate cross-studio explorations and welcome established artisans and new-comers alike.
Our intention is for Context to be a community effort, inclusive of different ideas and perspectives so please submit any thoughts to the editor, Amanda Mander, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I would like to thank Eliza Tudor for helping to develop the concept, Joy Rubin for the beautiful logo she designed for us, and writers studio steering committee members for their support and ideas along the way. Thanks especially to Sallie Maron, writer studio lead, for her enthusiasm and help in getting the content we needed for our first edition. And lastly, thanks to all the contributors - without you, Context wouldn't be possible.
Enjoy, and please consider submitting in our next acceptance period which starts September 1st. We'd love to see what you've been up to!
